OXO Chef Knife Review

OXO Chef Knife Review

A chef’s knife is one of the most important kitchen tools a cook can have. It is one of the most versatile knives you will have in your inventory. They can also be quite expensive. Today I have a good quality option for those on a budget. Here is my OXO chef knife review.

The Blade

The blade is obviously the most important part of the knife. This model is made with German stainless steel with a high carbon content that supposedly helps with edge retention and lasting sharpness. I’m not a steel expert, so I can’t comment on the scientific details, but I can say that my knife has held a sharp edge well.

OXO Good Grips 17 Piece Knife Block Set

My OXO has seen moderate use and has not required many sharpenings. And though I am careful with my knives, mine has not seen any accidental damage in the sink or in storage. I am quite happy with the quality of the steel and the blade overall.

The Handle

While the blade has done its job, I really love the handle on this knife. It is very smooth and comfortable. Comfort is not a luxury when it comes to knives. A good comfort level makes for safer slicing and chopping. I highly recommend always choosing a knife you are comfortable with.

This model boasts a full tang, which means the steel of the blade runs all the way through the handle. A full tang is something you should always look for in a chef’s knife. I feel a lot more secure in my slicing and dicing when I know my blade isn’t going to fall out of the handle.

Overall

I’ve had my OXO chef’s knife for a few years now, and I still love it. The knife has held up tremendously well. I still love the look and feel of it. Of course, there are plenty of better knives on the market, but they come at a much higher price. For its price point, the OXO is a great deal, especially for beginners.
