About

Hi, my name is David. I started this blog to share my culinary experiences with the world. My culinary journey has been a long one, almost 20 years at this point, and my passion for food is as strong as ever! On this page, you will find recipes, kitchen tips and tricks, and product reviews. As a lifelong resident of the deep South of the USA, I specialize in Southern recipes. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer!

My culinary journey began in 2003. I dropped out of college after a couple of months due to a complete lack of direction. I had no idea what kind of career I wanted, and tuition was simply too expensive to be spinning in my tracks.

After working for a couple of months at a local grocery store, I landed my first kitchen job at a local deli at the age of 19. I started in the dish pit making minimum wage, which was $5.15 back in those days. I gained a lot of experience at that position, doing a little kitchen prep and also running deliveries. However, my eyes quickly started wandering towards the line.

After almost a year in the dish pit, I was ready to move on. Watching the other cooks dishing out neat looking sandwiches like clubs and Reubens actually got me excited. It looked like a lot of fun. I eventually worked up the courage to ask to be moved to the line, and I was off to the races.

I quickly ascended the ladder, and before I knew it I was the main cook in the kitchen. Within 4 years, I was the kitchen manager. After a year of management, I was ready to keep moving up.

My next stop was partnering with the owner of a local gas station to bring food back to his operation. I learned some valuable lessons at that stop, both in BBQ and in business. That partnership fell apart in roughly a year, but bigger things were on the horizon.

After the gas station deal ended, I got the opportunity to open my first restaurant. I was extremely blessed to have that opportunity, and it was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, that business coincided with the 2008 financial crisis and ultimately didn’t make it.

I worked at a handful of other joints in the following years. As a result, I gained valuable experience that I hope to now pass on. I owe everything to my culinary journey, and now I hope to give something back.
