Homemade KFC Famous Bowl

Homemade KFC Famous Bowl

If you are a fan of the KFC Famous Bowl, I’ve got a treat for you. Today I’m sharing my homemade KFC Famous Bowl recipe! This easy dinner idea is sure to be a hit with your family. Even the kids will love it!

This recipe is quite modular. You can ramp up the flavor factor by making more of the components from scratch. Alternatively, you can make it a lot easier by using premade ingredients.

For simplicities sake, I’m listing premade ingredients for this recipe, namely the mashed potatoes and chicken tenders. If you prefer to make the recipe from scratch, check out my real deal Southern fried chicken recipe for scratch-made chicken. I haven’t written a scratch-made mashed potatoes recipe yet, but I will link it here when I do.

Ingredients

  • chicken tenders
  • mashed potatoes
  • 1 can of corn
  • 1 packet of brown gravy
  • shredded cheddar

Prep

Prep will depend on what route you take to make the dish. If you are making everything from scratch, you will need to prep a frying station for chicken tenders, prep potatoes for mash, etc.

For this simple recipe, prep will consist of gathering the ingredients. For a really quick dinner, I recommend getting premade mashed potatoes that warm up in the microwave. There are several good brands to choose from. You can even jazz the recipe up with different flavored mashed potatoes.

The same goes for chicken tenders. There are numerous frozen options available at most grocery stores. Walmart’s Great Value tenders are cheap and surprisingly not bad. You can also get tenders from most supermarket delis.

Go ahead and open up your can of corn and a package of gravy. Measure the amount of water you need depending on what the gravy package says. Now it’s time to cook!

How To Make A Homemade KFC Famous Bowl

Heating up the tenders will probably take the longest. In my Aumate Air Fryer, they take around 15 minutes, so you want to get them going first.

Next up, pour your can of corn into a pot and get them going on medium heat. Add a little salt, pepper, and butter to give them some flavor. Once the corn is on, pour your gravy water into a pot and get it going as well. Both of these ingredients should be done right around the same time as the chicken.

Lastly, warm up your mashed potatoes according to the package instructions. If you are cooking them on the stove, you can start them now as well.

Once all of the ingredients are warmed up and ready, grab a casserole dish and spray it down with cooking spray. Layer in the mashed potatoes, followed by the corn. Next, place the chicken tenders on top of this combo. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over everything, and then pour the brown gravy on top of that.

The last step is to pop the dish into a 350-degree oven/toaster oven/air fryer for 10 to 15 minutes. Everything is cooked, so all you need to accomplish here is melting the cheese. Once the cheese is melted to your liking, you are done!

What Goes With The Homemade KFC Famous Bowl

My favorite part of this recipe is that it is a complete meal on its own. It doesn’t need sides! However, if you want to add something to go with it, there are options.

The dish already contains starch with potatoes and a sweet vegetable in the corn. Greens are a good contrast here. The fibrous greens will help counter all of the sugars in the potatoes and corn.

Any of the big three greens will work here, either turnips, collards, or even cabbage. You could even go wild with some mustard greens.

If leafy greens aren’t your thing, green beans will work as well. I love green beans with any kind of gravy dish. You could serve these on the side or even add them straight into the main dish!

The Famous Bowl has countless varieties. Try some out and see how they taste. Let me know what you create in the comments!
