Electric pressure cookers are all the rage these days. You can find countless recipes online for Instant Pot. If you find yourself wanting to join in on the fun, but your budget won’t cover an instant, I have a solution for you. Here is my GoWise USA pressure cooker review.
Like an Instant Pot, the GoWise is a multi cooker. You can use it as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, or warmer. It comes with 12 presets for dishes such as risotto, yogurt, seafood, and chili. This versatility comes in handy if your countertops are as cluttered with appliances as mine is. It’s why I have multi-cookers listed as one of the 5 appliances you need in your kitchen.
Tech Specs Of The GoWise USA Pressure Cooker
The GoWise is as simple to use as a microwave. The controls are self-explanatory. The presets are great for the dishes they cover, but you can also set the cooker to operate for custom times.
The pressure cooker comes with a dual lock system that won’t open unless it’s safe to do so. There is also a pressure release button that allows you to manually release pressure if you don’t want to wait for it to do so naturally.
Cleanup is super easy, as the cooking pot comes right out of the cooker. The pot is also nonstick, which cuts down on cleanup time. Just don’t leave food sitting in the pot too long and you will never have trouble cleaning up.
GoWise Pressure Cooker Recipes
I’ve had this cooker for over a year. Some of my favorite things to cook in it include chili, chicken wings, and greens. My super simple chili recipe works great in this pot. Remember, this thing is a slow cooker too. You can literally set it and forget it. The warmer function will keep that chili ready for hours on end if you want to nibble through the day.
I have found pressure cooking chicken wings in the GoWise, and then deep-frying them for just a moment gives excellent results. The pressure cooker makes the wings fall off the bone tender, and the short dip in the deep fryer gives them a crispy exterior. This is pretty much the only way we cook wings at the house now.
The GoWise is great for anything that normally takes a long time to cook. Southern staples like rutabagas and collard greens can have their cooking time tremendously reduced in this appliance.
The results were not as stellar when we tried pressure cooking a pot roast. While the taste and tenderness were fine, I did not like the look of the meat. It was gray and bland. If you are dead set on pressure cooking roasts, I’d recommend giving them a sear first.
I would also warn on trusting the presets too much. Sometimes a dish is not complete after the preset time. Additional cooking can be required, especially for things like beans. Don’t forget to taste before serving.
There are countless Gowise pressure cooker recipes you can try. Anything that goes in a slow cooker will go great in the Gowise.
GoWise vs Instant Pot
So how does Gowise stand up to the king of the hill? Gowise vs Instant Pot. Both of great appliances. The big advantage GoWise has is price. An instant pot with the same size and features is going to cost between $60 and $80 more than a GoWise.
Does that extra money get you better quality? I’ve had my GoWise for several years now and it still does everything it is supposed to. There has been no drop-off in function.
As with most products, the higher price of the Instant Pot can mostly be attributed to branding. It is the most popular game in town. Pressure cooker recipes are literally labeled “Instant Pot recipes” now. The GoWise matches up well with the Instant Pot, and you’ll be able to do all the same things with this appliance.
GoWise USA Pressure Cooker Review Conclusion
Overall, I would recommend the GoWise for your pressure cooking and slow cooking needs. It has held up well for the years I’ve had it and has simplified my cooking experience. The Gowise pressure cooker has become our go-to appliance for cooking chicken wings. We also use it exclusively for my tasty pork steak and rutabagas recipe.
