We have passed the halfway point of the year and are now in the thick of summer. It’s the perfect time to rekindle the carefree spirit you had as a child during summer break and try some new dishes! Here are 7 summer dishes to try this year.
Beef Ribs
Do you remember Fred Flintstone chowing down on a giant brontosaurus rib? Well, you can too, but smoking some delicious beef ribs. While more expensive than the more commonly used pork ribs, beef ribs are equally delicious and twice as massive. If you like brisket, you will love beef ribs. Check out my basic rib rub recipe if you want to make your own!
Low Country Boil
A low country boil is a long standing tradition in Southern summers. A boil is excellent for parties and gatherings. There are numerous protein options such as shrimp, crawfish, crab legs, and even lobster. And you gotta have the corn, potatoes, carrots, and sausage to go with it. There should be something for everyone in the pot. Check out my low country boil guide for more info!

Sushi Tacos
Sushi tacos have gone viral on social media in the past few years, and it’s easy to see why. They are so visually appealing that it is hard to resist. If you’ve never had sushi and want to try, this could be the perfect delivery system. I mean, who doesn’t love tacos! There are so many varieties that there is sure to be one out there you like. It should be noted that many options offer fully cooked proteins, it’s not all raw fish.
Wonton Nachos
A new favorite of mine, the last few years, is Wonton nachos. Fried wantons make for a perfect nacho chip. We like to use an Asian slaw on ours, and any protein will work. We usually go with chicken. As the sushi tacos mentioned above, this dish is a great way to try out new flavors.
Lobster/Shrimp Roll
The lobster roll is one of the most iconic dishes of the American Northeast. Whether served hot or cold, this is a great sandwich to try if you have the opportunity. If lobster is a little out of your budget, try a shrimp roll instead. This affordable alternative won’t disappoint.
Viral Italian Pasta Salad
Pasta salad is another dish that has gone viral on social media lately, particularly the Italian lunch meat version. A combination of ham, turkey, and pepperoni is chopped up and mixed with garden rotini, banana peppers, tomatoes, onions, olives, Italian seasoning, and Italian dressing. This cold served dish is perfect for a hot summer afternoon.
Banana Pudding
No summer dishes list would be complete without banana pudding. While ice cream is the king of summer desserts, banana pudding is a worthy prince. Another cold served dish, this sweet treat will make you forget the scorching summer heat. Check out my Southern style banana pudding recipe if you decide to make your own!
