If you are lucky, your town has a good local steakhouse. Mobile is fortunate to have a few good options, and I’ll be covering one in this post. Today I’m sharing my Briquettes Steakhouse Review!
Background On Briquettes Steakhouse
Briquettes first opened in 2013 in Mobile. They now have 2 locations in Mobile and 1 in Saraland. They previously had a location in Spanish Fort, but it is now closed. I have dined at two of the locations, and the quality was similar in both spots.
The restaurant is locally owned, founded by Becky and Bryan Payne. Their children have also been a part of the business since it opened, making it a family-run operation that will hopefully continue into the future.
Atmosphere and Decor
The best way I could describe the decor of the restaurant is that it’s very casual fine dining. By that I mean that it is very well done, but you won’t feel out of place if you are wearing jeans and a polo shirt. I would say it’s comparable to Longhorn Steakhouse, but without the Western theme.
I’m a big fan of the solid colored walls and brickwork. It helps create an atmosphere that just feels comfortable and cozy. The artwork scattered about the restaurant adds nice highlights without dominating the scene.
The cleanliness of both locations really allows their decor choices to shine. Their newest location in Saraland is in a renovated building that needed a lot of work, but they nailed it with the restoration. I was stunned at how they were able to transform the spot.
Menu And Food Review
As a rule, if I am going to get a steak from a restaurant, I want it to be from a steakhouse. So when I go to a steakhouse, that is usually what I get. However, my wife and children love this place, so we have been some times where I just wasn’t feeling a steak. So I have tried a few other items on their menu.
I have tried two different cuts of steak from Briquettes, and both were delicious. The sirloin was tender, juicy, and had just the right amount of butter. At my last visit, they didn’t have sirloin, so I upgraded to ribeye and was not disappointed. It was amazing, and almost made me regret ordering the sirloin on previous trips. My wife had the filet mignon on our last visit, and I was able to sample it as well. It was great, but I definitely preferred the ribeye.
For those of you with kids, the chicken tenders are good here, so don’t hesitate to bring the little ones along. Other items I’ve tried include the roasted prime rib sandwich. It came with onions, red pepper horseradish sauce, and a side of au jus. It was an excellent choice for lunch. I have also heard the alfredo is good, but I haven’t tried it yet.
The sides really shine at Briquettes. Their mac and cheese is fantastic. My son tried it for the first time on our last trip, and now he wants to go back just for it. Their sweet potato casserole is to die for. Its the best I’ve had at a restaurant so far. Their fries are good, but nothing special.
Briquettes Steakhouse Prices
The prices at Briquettes were comparable to those at other steakhouses in the area. An 8 oz sirloin will run you approximately 18.99 as of the writing of this article. The ribeye came in at 25.99 for a 10 oz and 28.99 for a 12 oz. Filet mignon was 28.99 for a 6 oz and 32.99 for an 8 oz. Lower prices can be found if you go for lunch. The kids’ meals were around $10.
Unfortunately, the price of beef has caused the prices at all steakhouses to skyrocket. That problem is only expected to continue in 2026, with even the price of ground beef expected to rise to almost $10 a pound. Eating at a steakhouse is becoming even more of a rare treat than it used to be for a lot of people.
Service
The service at Briquettes has always been good when we have visited. We have never had a long wait for food. The servers are friendly and attentive. We have had no problem as of yet at Briquettes.
I was especially impressed by our visit to the new Saraland location back in November. It was for the 70th birthday of my father-in-law, and the party was attended by 11 people. Despite being one of their first few weeks of being open, the service was excellent. I expected a wait for the food, given the party size, but it came out just as quickly as it does when it’s just my wife and kids.
Final Verdict On Briquettes Steakhouse
Briquettes Steakhouse is one of our favorite restaurants to visit in Mobile County. I love being able to recommend local, family-owned restaurants, and I can’t recommend this place enough. If you are in the Mobile area and looking for a good experience and great food, I highly recommend Briquettes Steakhouse!
