Tone's chicken bouillon review.

Tone’s Chicken Bouillon Review

Chicken stock is a crucial ingredient in numerous dishes, but I don’t always have it on hand. Sometimes, I don’t have time to make it from scratch either.  A good alternative is chicken bouillon.  It has a much longer shelf life than chicken stock, so you can always have it on hand for when you run out of stock.

Just like any other product, different brands will give you different tastes.  I discovered my favorite brand working at my first restaurant job.  Many of their prominent dishes involved chicken salad.  They prepared their chicken by boiling it with various seasonings, including chicken bouillon, and used the stock for several dishes.

This stock didn’t include a traditional mirepoix, but it was pretty good.  The chicken salad was locally famous, with people coming from several neighboring counties to purchase it.

The bouillon used in these recipes was made by Tones.  The restaurant I worked at purchased the product from Sam’s Club, as did I for a time.  Eventually, keeping a Sam’s Club membership was no longer appealing to me, so I had to find an alternate location to buy the bouillon.  I was unable to find Tones at any of my local grocery stores, but fortunately, it is carried by Amazon.

Tone’s Bouillon Cubes, Chicken, 32 Ounce

Tone’s has a good flavor without overpowering a dish.  The one thing to watch for is the saltiness of the product.  Adding too many cubes can make a dish too salty.  For this reason, I recommend adding the cubes sparingly, periodically tasting the dish as it cooks to check for saltiness and flavor.

Using actual stock is usually the preferable method, with homemade stock being best.  When you can use actual stock, do it.  For those times when you don’t have it, or if you are looking to save a couple of bucks, Tones Chicken Bouillon is a good alternative.
