Summer is quickly approaching. Memorial Day is right around the corner, and baseball is in full swing. It’s the perfect time to enjoy one of America’s favorite foods, the hot dog! Today I’m ranking the 3 best hot dog brands. For this list, I will be looking at the best all-beef hot dogs.
#3: Sabrett
Coming in at #3 is Sabrett. Sabrett is one of the top brands in New York, arguably the hot dog capital of the US. If you’ve ever had a hot dog off of one of the carts patrolling the city, you’ve probably had a Sabrett hot dog once or twice.
As a child of the South, this is not a brand I grew up with. However, my mother was born in New York and spent her childhood there. On a family vacation to visit Cooperstown, we stopped by the city for a day to see the sights and visit the Museum of Natural History. One of the things she insisted we do was buy a hot dog from one of the city’s hot dog carts.
I grew up eating hot dogs as most Americans do. I’d seen the little hot dog carts on TV and in movies. Ordering and eating a hot dog from the cart was a special experience for someone who grew up in a small Southern town. As you might have guessed from the placement of this story, it was a Sabrett hot dog.
The hot dog was of course delicious. It was everything my mother said it would be. A classic dirty water dog with mustard. Nothing fancy. The dog had a hint of garlic and just the right amount of snap. It was an experience I cherish to this day.
Nowadays you can find Sabrett hot dogs in grocery stores across the country. If your local supermarket has them in stock, give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.
#2 Hebrew National
The #2 hot dog brand on my list is Hebrew National. Before my New York adventure, my brand of choice was Hebrew National. This was another brand introduced to me by my New York-raised mother. These dogs dominated my hot dog consumption for years before I discovered the #1 entry on the list.
The Hebrew National dogs have that hint of garlic flavor like Sabrett. It also has a good snap to it. It’s a great-tasting hot dog and one I still enjoy from time to time today.

The one drawback that keeps Hebrew National out of the top spot is that it is a little greasier than the #1 option. All hot dogs are a bit greasy, and the grease level of Hebrew National didn’t bother me at all until I found what I think is the best hot dog brand…
#1 Nathan’s
We have reached the top of the mountain. The best hot dog brand in America. Nathan’s Famous beef franks are the top dog in my eyes. There is a reason Nathan’s is responsible for the biggest hot dog eating contest in the world.
Nathan’s hot dogs are a bit milder than the previous two entries. It doesn’t have quite the garlic profile of Sabrett or Hebrew National. It also manages to be juicy without being quite as greasy as Hebrew National. Nathan’s has just the right mix for the perfect hot dog.
People can be picky about what brand of hot dog they like. I believe that if you are trying to serve multiple guests, this is a great brand to please everyone. It is a high-quality dog with nothing most people will find offensive. Nathan’s is the best hot dog brand in the US.
