Today, I am reviewing a product that is near and dear to my heart. This product is probably the most popular food item to come out of the state of Alabama. You’ll see a lot of websites state that a white BBQ sauce is what Alabama is most known for, but they are wrong. Conecuh sausage is king in Alabama. This is my Conecuh sausage review.

What Is Conecuh Sausage?

Conecuh sausage is a hickory-smoked pork sausage made in sweet home Alabama. Established in 1947 in Evergreen, Alabama, the name comes from the county that Evergreen is located in, Conecuh County, Alabama. The company now operates a store in Evergreen selling their sausages and other food products, along with souvenirs.

Long a staple in grocery stores across the South, Conecuh sausage can now be purchased in supermarkets across he nation.

The sausage itself is packed with flavor. The company stresses that the hickory smoke is key, but there is also a secret seasoning blend used to make the sausage. There are a few different varieties to choose from, including Original, Hot and Spicy, All Natural, Cajun, and Cracked Black Pepper.

While you can’t go wrong with any of these delicious choices, I usually opt for the original. While I do love spice, the original has such a strong flavor that I feel extra spice is generally unnecessary. Plus, I can adjust with hot sauce if I want it to be extra spicy.

Best Ways To Use Conecuh Sausage

Part of what makes Conecuh sausage such an amazing product is that its flavor brings any dish you add it to 5 stars. Classic examples would be gumbo and red beans and rice. I honestly think it is a better choice than any sausage you can get in Louisiana, including andouille.

Another Southern classic that Conecuh sausage turns from a 10 to an 11 is lima beans. I also like to add the sausage to my turnip greens.

Conecuh works great as a breakfast sausage. Whether eaten plain or as part of an omelet, adding Conecuh to your mornings is sure to give you a delicious breakfast.

Perhaps the best way to eat Conecuh sausage is on the grill. It pairs well with BBQ sauce, but also with mustard, peppers, and onions. It’s hard to beat a Conecuh dog with peppers and onions come summertime.

Review

I literally can’t recommend this sausage enough. It’s one of the most versatile products I use, and one of the most delicious. This Conecuh sausage review has been a long time coming, and given its prominence in my kitchen, it probably should have been one of the first things I reviewed!
