Youtube is a great place to find recipes and learn new skills. Watching a dish being cooked makes it much easier to create the dish yourself later. It’s like having a culinary teacher in your own kitchen. I have learned a ton from watching Youtube videos. Here are 3 great cooking channels you should check out on Youtube.
Food Wishes
Food Wishes has been around for a long time. The channel was founded in 2007, back in the early days of Youtube. It is also one of the first channels I started browsing for recipes. Food Wishes is still going strong 13 years later.
Chef John does a great job explaining his recipes. He doesn’t just tell you what to do, he tells you why you are doing it. These lessons carry over to other recipes, making the viewer a better cook overall. If you watch enough of his videos, you will be a pretty well-rounded cook in no time.
Chef John has so many wonderful recipes that it’s hard to pick a favorite. I do have a soft spot for his homemade meatballs, which is one of the first of his recipes that I tried. I use this recipe with my spaghetti to this day.
Serious Eats
Serious Eats is another old-timer on the Youtube block. Founded in 2006 by Ed Levine, it is not the product of one cook, but many. Notable contributors include J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, who is well renowned in the online cooking world.
Serious Eats features recipes, how-tos, and behind the scenes videos. Their recipes are typically very in-depth. Kenji’s Food Lab is particularly informative. The channel also has great videos on kitchen equipment and cooking techniques.
Laura in the Kitchen
Laura in the Kitchen by Laura Vitale is another long time favorite of mine. Started in 2010, Laura has shared over 1,000 recipes over the past 10 years. While she started with mostly Italian recipes, the channel has branched out over the years and now covers a wide range of recipes.
Laura in the Kitchen is not quite as in-depth as the previous two entries on this list, but Laura makes up for it with her bright personality. She brings passion to her videos that is infectious. Her recipes are not overly complicated making them easy to follow for new cooks.
My favorite recipe on the channel is easily the chicken fettuccine alfredo. It is one of my go-to recipes for a quick and delicious dinner. The recipe uses simple ingredients and basic techniques, but the results are outstanding.
These are 3 great cooking channels on Youtube. The fact that all of these channels are 10 years old or older shows that they have stood the test of time. The fact that they are still churning out recipes after all this time is impressive. We’ll see if someone can surpass them in the coming years.
